Located in the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills, Grimmel Schaake Cattle Company is owned and operated by Shane and Melissa Schaake.

Our mutual admiration for the cattle industry began at a young age, but thousands of miles apart and in different breeds. Shane was raised on a registered Simmental operation in Kansas, while Melissa pioneered her way into the cattle business as a first-generation Hereford breeder on her family’s farm in Maryland. Though our passions originated through different breeds, we were both active members of national junior associations throughout the duration of our junior careers. Today, we remain strong believers and supporters in youth livestock programs.

We have dedicated our efforts to building a strong foundation of functional Hereford and Simmental females that not only go back to our families’ proven donors, but also by investing in genetics from prominent breeders throughout the country. Solid cow families are the core of our program, and together we have traveled many miles to find females that can perform and excel in multiple environments and facets within the industry. We are proud to put our own stamp on a herd, a place, and a dream that we built — together.

We purchased what is set to be the headquarters of Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co. in December 2021. We relocated our herd to the new property and broke ground on a facility to begin utilizing the barn in the Fall of 2022. We are not only excited about where our herd is now in terms of quantity and quality, but are looking forward to the future of this program and where it’s headed.

With the unveiling of our brand, has come great success. We have bred and raised division winners at every national major show, along with two reserve national champion females. Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co. was awarded Premier Hereford Breeder at both the 2022 and 2023 American Royal, and most recently, Melissa was named the 2024 Hereford Herdsman of the Year. We are truly blessed, and appreciate those who have helped, guided and supported us along the way.
